It will be the lense. My Nikon takes better photos than the canon with the kit lense. For the Canons to really shine they need good glass. I am saving up the penies for an L series lense but you ont have to go that far. I friend of mine is a pro photographer and he uses a wide range of lenses including some non-canon lenses with exceptional results. See if you can get your hands on a good lense and see the difference. A good one to start out with is the fixed 50mm lense for around $125 (the nifty fifty).

		Hi Mick-Kelly,
thank you for your advice.
The lens I am using is the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM Lens and not the lower quality Canon EF 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6 USM.
The lens gave me excellent results when used on the 35mm EOS 100 film camera.
Could you explain please why it shows such a decrease in quality when matted to the 30D?

		I found two interesting sites:
Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM - Review / Test Report
Canon 28-105 vs. Canon 28-135 Lens Test
I will try shooting at f11 with a contrast setting pushed two stop.

Thanks for the websites, another thing to check is your white balance setting. I have found mine is quite sensitive to white balance adjustments. Mine is running with just the kit 90 mm zoom at the moment and i got to have a play with a friends L series lenses the other day and the difference was amazing. It was like mine was letting in half the light that his lenses allowed at the same apperture. I have been playing with the depth of field preview a fair bit as well in trying to sort out the best settings.

		Hi,
can you post pictures taken with both lenses? just to check the difference between both lenses.
I am considering the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. It doesn't come cheap for 1,149 USD.

		Hi,
I worked on the user defined settings having:
Sharpness	4
Contrast	3
Saturation	2
Color tone	2
The result are starting to become better.
I guess that a pinch more of sharpness could give a slightly better results.
On another hand setting the Aperture to F11 is definitely an added bonus to sharpness.

Looking good, the roses really pop as does the orange roof. Your colour saturation has improved a lot. I will pull mine out tonight and see if it has eny of the images from the L series lens left on it. Thanks for posting your settings.

That moon image looks really crisp. Nice balance of shades as well. That is quite impressive for that lense. I think youve got that camera sorted. I wont get a chance to play with mine for another month or so. Then i go on a weeks holiday.
