Nan has an Epsom V500. It scans negatives (by the strip) and sort them to individual shots on your PC. It scans slides as well. Very user friendly from what I have seen (I am not allowed to touch it ). Definately worth a look.

I got an Optex one about a year or so ago.
Makes a great quality digital pic, and was only about $80 I think.

I've been using a Plustek "OptiFilm 7200" a few years old now but does a good job (especially if you have a good neg/slide to start with)

I use an Epson Perfection 1250, featuring 48-bit color and 1200-by-2400-dpi resolution.

It is slow and handles one scan after another. It scans Slides, Plain paper,
    Film, Transparencies.

The scanner is a bit old but has never missed a beat.

So with these can you put a strip of negatives in and it will scan them as individual pictures?

My parents have a huge pile of old photographs, negatives and slides that I would love to scan for them, but the thought of doing then one by one turns me off!

Is there any scanner that you can drop a pile of photos in and it will scan them individually (sort of like how with a photocopier you can put a pile of papers in and it copies them all)?

I believe such devices exist - my son, who works for the National Library reviewed purchase options on this sort of device for them last year - I'll have to check with him, but I seem to remember that the cheapest ones they looked at ran into five figure prices.
