I am an unfit almost 50 yo who also likes the odd bush walk and lugs around a 7D and a couple of lenses in a back pack along with a tripod, so I feel your pain

Not sure I could drop back to a lesser camera though.

That's the problem isn't...

I suppose the best possible photo for the work put in. We did a 5.5klm walk and the gear got seriously heavy by the end of that walk.

But the burr under my saddle is the Sony NEX 7. NEX-7 : NEX-7 : NEX Camera (E-mount) : Sony Australia

How good is this camera really looking at the spec's it looks very good and with a good range of lenses as well.

Are you using a decent back pack with a decent waist strap and is it adjusted correctly? You need to have the majority of the weight on your hips rather than your shoulders. Having the weight low and forward in the pack (ie closer to your back) also helps if you can do it.

You could also try getting a bit fitter! Are you doing regular brisk walks when not tripping/touring around? I'm always pushed for time so I try to exercise whilst commuting as much as I can - kills two birds.....

I'll apologise in advance - I'm not trying to have a go at anyone; just putting options out there. I'm not into photography, but I know about not wanting to compromise on having the right gear .

For me its a challenge my service to this country cost me 40% of my lung capacity. Plus a lot of other complications from being poisoned in the F111 Deseal Reseal program.

I have a Canon back pack but thats not the answer if your out walking then the camera is out of the back pack. The supplied neck straps are not the greatest for carrying the camera for long periods.

Be prepared to be disappointed by they under-response to this issue by Government. Both major parties have had a chance to fix it neither have.

Its a case of wait for them to die and then we will do something.

I feel your pain.

Whilst I'm not 5x years of age I dont have the lightest of frames.

Having said that, I'm not restricted to the same effect you are.

I do however like to carry 3 Canon L series lenses and a canon body, plus Manfrotto Tripod if I know there's something good at the end (or should that be half way).

I've found over the years that crumpler bags fit me well and offer excellent support and weight distribution. Not cheap though!

As for the camera strap, agree the supplied ones aren't good for long carriage around ones neck. I tend to carry mine in the backpack but in the event I need to carry it out of the back I tend to carry it in my fingers, ie wrap them around where the film canister traditionally went. If I wrap the strap around my wrist so there's no slack I find I can carry the camera in that way with no problems, plus your ready to shoot at an instants notice. Granted this doesn't work quite so well with the 70-200 f2.8 L but it's still quite comfy.

Perhaps adopt above and buy the mrs a new Canon Powershot G1x or G12, that way you won't get lumbered with another body ad lens, whilst retaining a very capable small camera.

There is a new Canon on the way. This one looks like a good choice for the boss to carry. But I am also interested in the Sony NEX 7. I was thinking of another 7D body but after our last trip I don't know if the extra weight is worth it. The Sony NEX 7 with an 18-200 zoom looks like a good thing.
