It's a photo I saw at the time and one which I will never forget but to think it's 40 years old surprises me. I don't know why.
I saw the documentary about Kim some years ago.

I think that image is still fixed in the mind of anyone who saw it in 1972.
Legend has it that the publication of that photo was responsible for a big shift in public opinion about the war.
It is one of the great iconic images from history.

As well as revisiting the photo (via the link in Post #1) read the whole story - very touching and thankfully a positive outcome despite the horrors and pain she went through for years.

The Naplam pic and this execution pic are the two burnt into my mind. I can remember both on TV at the time.

Hi,
I think the title of the book was something like "the girl in the photo"
It is quite a few years since I read it, but it is a moving story and a real insight to another way of life.
cheers

I can remember seeing that photo on the news (actually wasn't it footage of her running) like it was on the news tonight and I turned 49 a bit over a month ago so I was a whipper snapper when I saw it
The other one is also indelibly etched in my head as well.
To the point where I toured Vietman including going to Long Tan and walking around the rubber plantation but never took photos of it. Even stood where the Buddhist monk torched himself. Was an unusually moving journey for me.
Cheers, Dale
