I note my Pentax K7 has an in-built HDR feature. I suppose I should try it out.

Well I think I have some good subjects I took some shots of a snake skin in the mangroves of breakfast creek and of an old engine block that has been used as a mooring for about 50 years or so. My criteria was a subject that I couldn't get a single good shot of.
So now I have 2 challenges work out how to use the software and then how to post a non touched up photo and a 'worked' photo on here, I hope to do this before the weekend is over..
HDR is often the only way to truly capture what you eye sees - either that or a lot of dodging & burning in the processing stage.
I find that the layer masking techniques described here really help to make the final image look natural:

not that it cost alot but I got ripped off with the NX software - all that came up on the disc was nikon transfer.
