Weeds I would imagine anything water based would command a stuck down mount.

Suction cup based number holders seem to be getting pretty common on kayaks used for competition.

I don't suppose they are used for whitewater kayaks, but they are becoming pretty standard on kayaks in the Hawkesbury Classic.

That doesn't necessarily mean that GoPro use suction cups, but it suggests that they could.

You have a few options. Either glassed in mount or stick on with 3m adhesive.....neither whic you will be doing on hire equipment. Get a handl bar mount and clamp it to your paddle.

this one is your best bet if the kayak is fibreglass... not sure it would stick so well to rotomoulded surfaces Suction Cup Camera Mount - Strong Enough for up to 200 MPH Wind

but that said, between a handlebar mount (that can strap onto your paddle or a moulded handle on the boat) and head mount, you will have lots of points of view and angles to play with.
