These are add on timers that can be added to a regular Digital SLR and some Mirrorless compact system cameras , thats what you need for best quality time lapses, but a lot of money if you don't already have the camera.

i was thinking of getting a slr soon anyways. Is it just Nikon or is there some for canon as well?

Pentax K5 has inbuilt interval shooting (up to 1000 shots), I assume later models will have it as well.

not just Nikon, you should be able to get a Timer / Intervalometer to suit most Digital SLR's,

I have the Olympus OMD e-m5 (not really an SLR but a Mirrorless micro 4/3 camera) and chinese ebay timer JYC

but bear in mind that using a SLR for time lapse is going to chew a lot of battery, My OMD typically takes 500 shots per battery charge but with manual focus and LCD turned off & noise filters and stabiliser all turned off I can get 1000 exposures, about an hours worth of time lapse, or 2000 shots with accesory batery holder grip, that equates to a timelapse sequence about 2 minutes in length.

2000 frames is a big chunk out of a SLR's life, the OMD shutter is rated to 100,000 shots , which = 50 time lapses ,

ended up finding a intervalometer in Aus

it's a pixel one. probably could of found it much cheaper on ebay but I'm not too bothered. I don't have the time to mess around if postage takes for ever from china.

will share some of my shots when I get it all worked out and find something stunning to shoot

back to looking at the brinno tlc200 which i can get for $205 but then I need the weather proof case so overall $269 where as the brinno tlc100 is about $140 and does not need a weather proof case so am thinking I can probably not worry about the snapshot and save $130

I am still confused in which way to go there is 3 options for me.
brinno tlc 100-cheap and weather proof but the quality is not that great around $144 delivered
brinno tlc200- still not the best quality but a bit better then the tlc100. has other options.
downside is no weather proof box(seperate for around $65, i think i would make mmy own box). wide angle lense is expensive but may be worth it for nature/landscape.

or I could get a dslr just entry level such as canon 1100d. A lot better quality, I need a camera anyway, can use for more then just time lapse. downside price,needs other programs and stuff to set up(more cost), wears out the lense(?).

Probably the TLC100 if it has the same resolution as the TLC200 , it would be better to hang off the side of the car like this,

I had the TLC200 sitting on the roof of the caravan with some Takii , got a bit dusty tho.

if you want to do night sky , rather than a full DSLR you could consider, micro 4/3 format , the OMD-E-M5 is the best camera ive ever owned, pro SLR results but with a prime lens still fits in my pocket

that was very impressive. I would like to have one in the paddock to do night sky as well but having one on a car would be cool. I do not really want a go pro. I want something i can leave for at least 1 month
