    GoPro - what are the basic settings?

    A friend bought me a GoPro Hero3 White Edition for my birthday and I'm delighted with it.

    However, before I go into the forums and through the various support documentation that's available, I was wondering if anyone with some experience might be able to let me know what basic settings I need to apply for the various conditions in which I'll be filming; sort of a quick cheat chart:

    Driving off-road in sunshine - in-car mounted
    Driving off-road in sunshine - roofrack mounted
    Driving off-road in thick forest - in-car mounted
    Driving off-road in thick forest - roofrack mounted
    Cycling in daylight (city)
    Cycling in darkness (city)
    Kayaking in daylight
    Sitting around a campfire
    Crossing a river (hand held, walking)

    I know it's awfully lazy of me, but I'm not fussed about super slo-mo or time-lapse and have no idea about ProTune; I just want to get some good footage of me and my mates going through puddles.

    I thought you guys might be able to help...but please say if this is too big a question!

    Just use it as is, set it to Video and go, that's all I have done.

    unless the new ones have changed there aren't too many setting you can change in regards to different lighting situations.

    it does that bit all by it's self.

    it will always work best in high light situations so keep that in mind.

    not sure about the white hero 3 but my brother has a black one (higher spec) and good video software is essential.

    your basic windows movie maker just won't handle 1080p at 60fps.
    a lot of computers have a problem keeping up with just playing the video too.
    most of the negative feedback you see about the gopro 3 has to do with this.

    once it's been edited and rendered down to 30fps however there are no such problems.

    Set it to 1080 wide and set PAL as the video type that will give you 25 fps.

    I generally try using medium angle as the wide is a bit too fish eye lensed for my preferences and the narrow settings mean you need to be careful how close your subject is positioned. Absolutely the best accessory you can get for it is the LCD viewfinder so you can actually see what you're filming (like a normal camera). Have fun
