    Large Format Digital Photography.

Did an interesting exercise. I have in storage a Bronica ETR-S 6x 4.5 camera with an AE2 Viewfinder and Speedgrip and a 75mm lens. This was from my days when I was in the photography business and used it for studio portraiture and top level wedding photography.

I have always been a fan of large format, the negs are so much sharper and clearer than standard 35mm negs even though the running costs are so much dearer than 35mm.

As mentioned on other Threads here, my interest in photography after a lengthy delay has been resurrected and I got to thinking........What would it cost to upgrade the Bronnie with a digital back. The answer as it turned out is a motza (not unexpected) and as they stopped making Bronnies a few years ago, unless you are a professional it is not an economic exercise for a hobby photographer.

For example, you need an adaptor plate, provided by either a company called Silvestri or Kapturegroup at a price from either company of just under 1k.
The only digital back that I could find that would suit is the Hasselblad -V mount digital back(now we are talking real money) at something like 10k!!!!!

Well it was a nice thought, I think I will stick with my Nikon D5100 and leave the Bronica in storage..............damn, ah well it's nice to dream.

Hehehe yeah I went though the same process with my ETRsi... I decided on velvia and a good film scanner

I have a dslr but I don't use it much... These days it is either my little Sony point and shoot or my beloved Minolta srt-101 and some delta400 through the 58mm prime. My grandfather gave me that camera when I was about 8.

I had a Praktica 2 1/4" square slr which was in a car that was stolen from outside my Sydney flat along with the entire tool kit of a fitter/machinist/heavy truck mechanic. Nothing was ever found. The Praktica was a magnificent bit of kit. Looked like a grown up version of their 35mm slr. It made me a real fan of large format film. Alas, I have never found another large format that I was prepared to pay the asking price for. Also lost the three lenses with it. Had a bulk film back which was great. I could take it to Camco in George St nd get it loaded with miles of 120 film for not much. This is important when you are young and broke.

Keep using the Bronica Jim. They take a beautiful photo.
Yep, the Nikon is great. I've taken thousands of photo's since I bought it abot eighteen months ago, but, I still use the Bronica to try and get that arty shot.
