From your site my favs are /DSC_0020-2-5.jpg.html and /DSC_0020-2-6.jpg.html

I think that the composition of the 2-5 can be improved if you do a crop to eliminate the BG in the image just leaving the white of the petals and the beautiful center of the flower.

I think I was worried about cropping that in because that one was hand held and its not the sharp in the centre

If you like to add an artistic touch to it crop the edges to eliminate the BG, do a selective sharpening in the center of the flower, reverse the selection and apply a diffusing in the petals.
By doing this it creates a illusion of a sharp center which have been softened to have some consistence with the whites in the image.
I hope that i have explained it well

It may be how that image is displaying but your photo above looks like the butterfly has no detail at all just looks like a big black shape with some very distracting white dashes.

Is that the look you have tried for?

Or as the tinternet and compression messed with your photo. Because I'm sure its a beautiful photo it's just not displaying in this thread real well

A lot of details has been lost in the compression and change from 16 to 8 bit image.
but remember that in really life in a dusk foggy environment a lot of details will be lost.
It cannot be created an image with a sharp subject in a foggy situation, IMO will be far to much of a contrast.

Had another go today.

Bees the only insect reliable enough to be around to photograhp but they dont bloody land for very long, well not long enough for a newb on manual focus hahahah









These were obviously handheld and I was trying out manual focus....unfortunately there was a bit of a breeze, so getting them super sharp im not even sure was possible...
some of these had the iso bumped up real high as well because when you get up in to the 22's + and beyond (to give you a bit more DOF to play with ) the speed drops too low and I wanted to do it with natural light rather than with a flash...

I'm finding its a real balancing act..

Anyway I hope you feel that I'm improving a tiny bit each time because that's all that matters to me really

Oh I almost forgot I got a picture of a butterfly too
