Stop trying to talk me out of a new present!!!!!

    Hahahahah

Once I get another laptop I'm may give it a go at the moment I have some things on there that that haven't recently been backed up and I can't keep it going long enough to effectively get stuff off in one go so its a turn on get one thing let it switch off and the. Wait and repeat process.

Aaah..........................I see the light, Kaye does tell me I'm a bit thick at times , and Christmas is just around the corner.

You may be able to speed up your backup here by booting into safe mode using the F8 during booting method, if the PC doesn't fail when in safe mode it's a monty that your problems are software related. You may also be able to access the accessories/system tools/windows easy transfer applet which makes backing up and transferring data to a new PC a hell of a lot easier.

If the Acer wont cooperate, you can pull the hard drive, drop it in a usb caddy and plug it into the new xmas present when it arrives.

This should make any data recovery more convenient.

Be mindful the old HDD is now suspect wrt health, so dont be using it to store critical data.

pull the battery out of the acer and see how it behaves

just about any name brand these days is okay

buy the biggest cpu you can afford....

if you want longevity buy a business class unit with MANUFACTURERS extended warranty not 3rd party crap

under a grand, lenovo b50-70 may suit

    i7 with 4gb ram
    500gb drive WITH dvd drive
and has win 7 x64 or win 8

acer are doing some nice consumer grade 15" i7's with 3yr warrty at present. for about $968

    plenty out there...

    Well

I never bought a laptop in the end...I simply couldn't find something I liked. The only one that came close to me liking was the Lenovo Yoga it was a nice piece of kit but was getting close to 2grand mark

    So

I have just purchased a surface pro 3, you maybe like what the!! However out of everything I have played with I really really liked this one. It will do all the things I want ok perhaps won't do them all brilliantly but will still do it...

I read a couple of reviews from some photographers who use them and like them.
And best still I can still use it like a tablet when I don't want to use it like a laptop.

    I got the i5 with 8g ram and 256SSD

Would have loved to have gotten the i7 and with the 512SSD or even the 512SSD on the i5 but I couldn't push the budget any more than I already had.

I just worked on the theory that I could buy a good microSD if I need to ad space or even look at getting the wireless 1TB passport from WD later down the track.

Anyway just waiting for it to be delivered now as I bought direct from Microsoft because they were the cheapest

One of my team is running one Lou..... unless your eye site is as crappy as mine ( in which case they are just a little too small.) They are a great unit..... significantly better than the first 2 versions....

I suspect you will love it.....
