Probably debatable, but when it comes to a tight budget and for point and shoot photography, a typical phone takes pictures of more than adequate quality these days.

As for video, an action cam like a go pro or dji osmo action with a few accessories ticks a lot of boxes.

Other than that, a mirrorless camera with integral zoom lens is probably best bang for the buck for a dedicated photo and video device.

In any event, aim for at least 4k video quality. I don't think photo resolution is that great a deal now as everything has way more than most people need.

Pedro, just watch the zoom focus on the camera, when videoing. My memory fails me on brand, but someone I know bought a well known brand, expensive camera and in certain conditions, whilst videoing, the focusing would get confused.

I'm happy with my old Fuji S4000, but I'm definitely no photographer and use a GoPro for vids.

I think so,, but trying not to bother him atm....

While doesn’t match your budget, we opted for a SONY RX10 35-600 zoom meaning we don’t have to chance lenses all the time.

Seems to be taking good pics in auto mode, haven’t tried video yet.

We need to study the manual a bit.

I have a digital SLR with L glass, and really good point and shoot (Olympus Tough TG-5) and an iphone13. I think the iphone takes the best pics. But when on holidays I use the point and shoot as its super tough, dust/waterproof and also so the phone battery doesn't go flat, then just bluetooth to my phone any photos that I want to use before I get home. The DSLR doesnt get used any more.

Yes,DSLR's are going the way of the Dinosaur,mirrorless is the way now.

As for the OP's question,if the phone is no good,a good point and shoot maybe the go.Sony make a few different models.One of the leaders in mirrorless.

The next step up at huge cost is something like the Cannon R5,one of the best mirrorless around and excellent for videos.

The way cameras take photos and video now, I'd just upgrade the phone and go with that. As much as I hate to admit it, the phones are just incredible now. The iphone13 with Lidar is just insane in low light and in the dark.
