I would guess that you could use the length of your lense NM the camera has to zoom in and out be it only minor just to focus......

but I'm assuming your digital camera doesn't have removable lenses with motors in them......

I dont actually know this for sure but would be extremely surprised if it didn't

I want to know if you can zoom in and out while shooting vid.....I can't see in the literature/specs for the camera (well not in a language that I can understand at least ) if it does or not.
Called my mate, he had a go. Zooms in and out while shooting video.

Nikon D90 review Cameralabs features: Movie Mode

here you go good artical...........but form all the different reviews I have read NM I would be enclined to think serisously about buying the camera for a movie mode..

you have to manual focus when the camera is rolling which apparently can bring up camera shake and can be quite hard to get used to..it also gets more "noise in the picture than a standard video camera"

you can only use the live view when recording from the LCD screen at the back so you cant use the view finder and if having VR on your lense which will benefit your picture makes the camera very power hungry apparently.

but on the up side you can be creative by using different lenses such as a fish eye etc...and you can benefit from using depth of field to your advantage.

if it was me yes it seems like a good function for the quick spare of the moment clips you dont want to miss, but its the first ever in a DSLR so they are only going to get better.......IMHO its not good enough yet! but this opinion is only drawn from what I have read of other peoples experience I haven't had a go on one yet

I have already mentioned this......you can how ever set the camera up and autofocus by using the half shutter to get the initial focus but once you press record your on yeh own

I must admit that sticks in my mind to. I'll just have to wait until Dave gets back and I can play with his new toy and introduce him to the world of pro-glass Nikkor

See Lou this thread wasn't a waste after all Though it has had 172 hits so far

I'll post up what the D90's like when I get a play with it. I'm still trying to convince BM I need a D700.

ON another note I got my latest B&H Photo and Video NY catalogue today its about 1" thick and FULL of photography gadgets
