Would you be better off drawing on paper, scanning with a flatbed scanner and then use the tablet to edit/colour/cleanup later?

I think you missed the point...I have never used one before so I had a go at drawing on it

the tablet is not going to be used for drawing, mainly for editing photo work in photoshop etc

If I draw on paper I ususally don't have to correct and what does need changing gets done with a putty rubber.
I also paint in water colour normally

Although I got an easel also so i might just crack out the canvas and the acrylic

Fair enough. It's just I've seen a few digital art articles where the image starts off as a paper sketch which is scanned and then manipulated in photoshop or illustrator.

Sounds like a plan......only problem I have is my canon scanner stopped working with my vista so no more scanner for me, and I dont use it enough to warrant buying another but thanks for the tips

Have you tried going to the canon website and seeing if there is another driver for it? Usually they will release a new driver when a new OS comes out. If the scanner isn't a discontinued model they should have a driver update for it.
