We had a photography get together one morning. Over breakfast afterwards we did a rough tally of the value of our gear (in case of a group mugging). We stopped counting somewhere just over $100,000.....
Not hard to rack up by the time you get a number of pro lenses and assorted shiney thingies...

well in all honesty unless you bought your D80 second hand there is almost a gand straight up...when mine was bought I think it was 1100 or very near with just the body.
when I bought my 70-200 that was 2,700 its doesn't take long for things to rack up just like CGM said.....
