If the mount is the same they will work in a sense. They will not autofocus etc. It will be manual control only.
Hi,
I still have an old Nikon 801s and 2 lenses. Would those lenses still work on a digital Nikon ? I think the latest model don't have a motor in the camera so they won't work but will other models ?
I have a SIGMA 28-70 / 2.8 and a SOLIGOR 70-210 / 2.8-4

My Nikkor lens that I used on the Nikon 801s work with my D200
You will have issues with D40 and D60 as need the motorised (G) lenses.
I also have an old F801, great camera and several lenses which I use on my D200.

Auto Focus should work on the older models with the motor ?
Does anyone know what the last Nikon model is that has a motor inbuild and will work with those lenses ?

Basically the less expensive Nikon SLR's don't have motors, this includes the D40, D60, and the new D5000.
The more expensive bodies with motors include the D80, D90, D200, D300, D700, and D3.
Ken Rockwell has a web site that you either love or hate, but he does have a lot of information on Nikon and Canon SLR cameras. The web page Nikon Lens Compatibility list the compatibility between most Nikon cameras and lens.
Best of Luck

So a D90 Body or a Canon 450D with kit lenses is around the same price. Maybe I should have a play with both.

FWIW I did this and went with the Nikon. This was some years ago (Nikon D70 vs Canon10d)and I went with the Nikon D70 - the main reason was that I well in love with the 70-200 2.8 VR, and wanted a body to suite.
For 5 years the D70 has been rock solid - and while I do look after it, I have given it no concessions! It has been been dropped, I've fallen out of trees with it, its been wet, covered in mud, used in sweltering heat, below zero temps, in and out of a green house taking photos of orchids and it has never missed a beat - (well once, but that was the kit lens, totally my fault and fixed under warranty with no questions asked!)
I don't like not taking the camera in case it gets hurt.. defeats the purpose for me.
Not interested in starting a Canon Vs Nikon argument - just wanting to share my experience of the Nikon.
There is a new Nikon D5000 more goodies than the D60 and most of the D90.
I was looking at this and thinking - well - just thinking
See Nikon D5000 Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review has a comparison between the three Nikons.
