Thread: Photo Competition #17 - Ends 19-July

The first picture is public transportation, this is a 48 class on a Work Train just west of Gravesend , on the now abandoned Moree - Inverell line, circa 1976.

The second picture is private transport, the Puffing Billy, 2008.

Not a very artistic photo, but at least it qualifies on three grounds.

It shows two forms of transport and one is being used to transport the other.

The car is 21 years old. The kayak was about 21 hours old when the photo was taken this morning.

This is the fifth strip built kayak I have completed. This one, like the previous two, is my own design and fits into the ICF TK1 class.

It weighs 8.3kg and is constructed from Paulownia, WRC and Redwood with one layer of 125gsm glass and epoxy resin inside and out.

Very nice looking kayak there mate. You must be proud of that. Makes my 20 yr old fibreglass TK1 look positively barge like, and it was pretty much state of the art in 1980.

I have a fibreglass slalom kayak that was state of the art in 1969. In fact it was what they were using in the Olympics in the 60s. Imagine how out of date that is now.

Big power for the Carlingford Branch:


Between the 22-6-09 and 3-7-09 part of the Clyde-Carlingford Railway in Sydney was relaid with concrete sleepered track. Instead of the usual 4 car electric sets, an assortment of motive power was used on the trackwork trains. In this photo taken on the 25-6-09 you can see a pair of B class (Ex VR) locos led by a 422 class (ex SRA) just out of site to the left.

It was quite a spectacle, this spot is on a very steep grade (~1:35) and the train had to move forward one wagon length at a time. The three throbbing locos were notched up enthusiastically till the train was moving then full brakes applied.
