what file should I save it as

Ok So I took some photo's of some little wag tails today in my back yard...and they look fine on my computer in lightroom a tiny bit soft but ok. I exported it to photobucket and it comes up really pixalated

I dont know why though, one would assume due to compression in the jpeg file and the reduction to put it in the album, but why only these photo's I have never had an issue before.....

Also the signature I have put on I reduced its opaqueness to 50% but it still comes up on the photo like I haven't touched it once posted to here. However if I go in photobucket it looks like it is supposed to look???? and the pic also looks a lot sharper.

it just appears when I post a photobucket link on here the picture quality comes out crap and nothing like it actually looks.

is there a better file ext I should be using to eliminate quality loss in compression like tiff or something. I need a file ext that is also recognised by hosting sites.

I will give you an expample

    look at this pic here

Now go and look at Photobucket and tell me if you can see the massive difference that i'm seeing

    http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/a...20back%20yard/

click on the pic of the first bird and click on the pick again to look at original size if its anything like I'm seeing you should be getting a much crisper photo..the bird looks a lot sharper and the signature doesn't stand out as much

To me they don't look much different. I do think however the photobucket background theme helps it stand out a bit more though, I've just got a plan vanilla white background in AuLro.

Do you reduce the file size before you upload to Photobucket, or let it do it for you ?

Here's a screen capture of what I see in Photobucket.

    db-pb-img.jpg

The only thing I can see is it looks like the focal point is on the gate post and not the bird. To my poor eyes the images look the same. I would have said the signature was not 100% opaque and everything looks sharp except as I already mentioned.

It's a lovely shot and trying to get one of those little sods to stand still isn't possible. They are a lovely bird, used to have one in Albury that would come and land on my shoulder when I mowed and pick the cobwebs off my hat from when I brushed against the bushes.

One thing you can try is use the PS "Save to Web" option. It's probably in LR as well.

wel that picture above the birds legs...on what I can see are really blurry abd there are lines and squares around the legs the same as the head...I dont see this in photobucket thats what I cant understand

and if you look at the signature in the picture above and the screen capture that derek has taken you can see the the screen shot the signature is much less obvious and is a fraction smaller like it should be as I reduced it

normally to make it quicker I export the pictures at 50% of the orginal and then photobucket reduces to what ever size it does it to can't remember now.

but these ones I exported at 100%...

its frustrating that you guys cannot see it because it is blindy obvious on my computer

Here you are now look at the two of them, I have taken off the signature etc from the bottom one.....the top pic is the one in my first post the other is the one I have just redone...look at the bird and the legs in the top pic the bird is carrying a pixalated halo around it unlike the picture below it...now can anyone see what I was talking about? or not
to me the top pick looks like it has been rendered really badly.. even in the area around the tail in the top pic looks like patches of squares to me rather than an uniform blurr

I KNOW you don't want to hear this, but... they both look the same to me Lou

I suspect it is something to do with how you are saving them. I've had a similar issue with JPEG's to Flickr where they have lost sharpness. I would suggest trying the Photoshop command "Save for Web & Devices...", change the size to make the largest edge 800px and click apply, then click save. Review this image as it will be optimised to 72dpi by Photoshop's algorithms. This is what was recommended to me.

    I just find it funny....

Strange how I can see the difference between those two pics in that post and you cant.

So do both pics look pixilated to you?

the bottom one is as clear as a bell for me

I have to get close the screen to see though you cant see it sitting back from the screen.
