It's interesting there's no D300 upgrade.
It also brings the D3/D3x menus more in line with the D3s apparently.

The firmware upgrade is to eliminate the problem with the 64gb cards. The D300 cannot handle that.
I know that's why I thought it strange. My understanding is the D300 and D300s both took UDMA cards so I suspected it would have had the capacity to read higher with improved firmware. Obviously not the case though.
D3s is supposed to be OK for 64GB obviously, though it's not documented. I won't be rushing out to get any though, quiet happy with 4's, 8's and 16GB's

I agree with you, 8GB is the top capacity that I am using.
I would not be very happy if I lost 64 GB of images due to a faulty card or an accident
