Exclamation Get a DNG converter free

If you like to take shots in raw/nef, then the adobe DNG converter is a must in your PC

Recently I bought a Nikon D300s and the new NEF format is not the same as the one in the D200 or D80, the result is that I was unable to open the nef files.
ViewNX came with the camera but only gives you the option of view and converting the nef files into jpg ot Tiff.

The DNG converter gives you the option to have the original raw/nef file embebed in the DNG file if at later stage you need it.

My new workflow now is with a new subfolder which have a DNG converted files on the original nef files folder.

    Info about DNG is HERE

For dowload for Win go HERE and for the Mac HERE

The list of software companies that support DNG are HERE

    Cheers

Been down that track with the D3s. I'm not a fan of DNG as such, but it can have its uses.

Do you use Capture NX Arthur? If so upgrade it to Capture NX2. It's a much better program and works well with the new abilities of the D3s/D300s.

I'm using aperture now for workflow but use NX2 for better control of editing like I used NX with my D200. I'll probably upgrade Photoshop CS3 when CS5 comes out and so I'm stuck there as you need CS4 to use ACR5.x

I take it you are finding the D300s a big step up from the D200? Did you consider going to the D700?

I just bought the laters version of Capture NX2.2.4. I like the Nikon software because does not change my settings in the camera.
Today I found out that capture does nor read DNG files so looks like that I am going to work with NXView and Capture in the future

The D300s is a big step over the D200 specially for birds and ISO noise.
At the present time with my lens inventory (Nikon 70-300VR) I need all the reach that I can have and as you know the same lens have 33% less reach in a full frame camera.

The combo of a D300s and a D700 will be formidable because both cameras are using the same accesories and are light on the backpack
Perhaps in the future I will look into a full frame camera but first I like a 300mm lens and a macro to complement my 12-24 and the 70-300

At the present time I am looking into the Canon 500D close up lens to use with the 70-300VR. It is not a good as a macro but good for flora photography.
Ah! I forgot an Eizo monitor will be handy as well
I need to keep selling more of my work so I can have the money for the gear

    Cheers

500D is a handy little closeup filter to have. I bought one to see if I wanted to do more with macro and it is a great item to take as a backup instead of a full macro lens.

I guess that the close up 500d will produce more vingette on the full frame camera than in the D300s.
Did you tested it on the D3?

Hmmm, hadn't considered that Works really well on the D200 with the 70-200mm. I'll have to give it a try on the weekend with the D3s.
