    The Nikon Corner

We are few members that have Nikon cameras and I think that would be interesting to have a sub forum to share our knowledge between all of us.

If the idea is good, here is my first topic.

I have now a new Nikon D300s of which the NEF format it is not compatible with ACR and other Adobe software.
Only the later version of Lightroom reads the info but I do not like to use it.
Also the adobe PP software ignores the Nikon camera settings which I like to keep especially on my landscaping photography.
The only option to use Adobe software until an update come along is to convert the NEF files to DNG. Again we will loose the camera settings with this option.

Because these problems I start using the later version of Capture NX2.2.4
I am impressed with the new version, it is much better that the old one and very powerful on the individual adjustments on the image.
I tested the demo (60 days) and ordered a copy last week.

I am after a good workflow tool now and I just wonder if Photo Mechanic is better than NX View.

I would appreciate inputs from members that are using this software and opinions if it is better than Adobe Bridge.

    Thanks
    Arthur

Photo Mechanic is better than View NX but I would only consider this if you're not going to use Lightroom or Aperture.

I've been reviewing my workflow and Photo Mechanic popped up as a possibility but as I presently use Aperture it does all the import, keyword, naming and general batching stuff anyway. If I had Lightroom it would be the same. I think if I was to drop Aperture and just go with Capture NX 2 in the workflow I'd definitely get Photo Mechanic.

The issue with ViewNX is you effectively add a prior step to the workflow to use Nikon Transfer first.

As for a Nikon Corner. Great idea but we'd have to have a Canon corner to pacify those other lost souls and then we'd need a Pentax, Sony (Minolta), Panasonic, Leica, etc, corners as well. It would be akin to adding a Puma section to the 90 110 130 Defender section. Which of course is also a good idea but...

Yes, I agree with both of you, is that would be nice to have a sub forum or threadd where we can do a follow up of particular issues.

I was under the impression that you have a Defe Tdi 300 as well
It is a Puma rescue vehicle due that you live in a remote area?

    Now........back to photography

The Photographer's guide to Capture NX by Jason P Odell is a must for the Nikon NX user.

    Cheers

Actually the poor Tdi is mostly used as a commute to and from work now days.

This is also a useful intro to NX2: Nikon | Imaging Products | CaptureNX2

The other thing to consider for learning about Nikon DSLR's are the eBooks by Thom Hogan

It's not like there's a 100 posts a day here, on first page the most new threads I can count is 4 in one day. Surely the elitist "we need our own special Nikon forum" people wont lose their info while the rest of us are out using our cameras?

This is a Land Rover site, there's 100s of Camera specific forums out there.
