If you like I can give it a go on your web post (even if it have very little pixels to play) and show you that it can be a keeper. Perhaps cropping out the legs on the original and converting it to a portailt will be even better.

Thank you Arthur it would be good to see what can be done with CS3, especially from such a poor starting point. I was more excited with seeing a 'first' lorikeet here, taking a good pic didn't really happen. Sorry, cropped jpeg only.

Interesting that XP, Vista & W7 do not extract the ISO info. from my D70 (tried them all).
CS3 waxes lyrical about metadata, exif, XMP and such but doesn't actually tell you if it can extract and display it. One of the reasons I get frustrated with PS.

Deano, download the last version of Capture NX2 from the Nikon site is the version 2.2.4. You have 60 days to play with it
I believe that Capture do a better job than Adobe on the NEF files.

Attached is your image after I have done some PP on the jpg file.

I clean up the noise on the BG very agressively, do a linear contrast and sharp on the bird
In my monitor it is an improvement considering the little amount of pixels that I have to play.

I would like to have your opinion.

    Cheers

I think on any monitor it is a major improvement , especially considering you had so little to work with.
My only 'criticism' would be that to me the transition between the birds breast/right leg and the background is very sharp, sort of like a cutout laid on a background. Whilst this brings the subject to the fore, to me it's a bit harsh.
I'll go to Nikons site after tea and download Capture NX2, I hope it comes with good support info. I've got a fair bit of work to do to become proficient in PP so hope I find it more intuitive than PS.
I'll also have a look to see if there's a firmware update that might fix the exif/ISO issue.
Thanks again Arthur for your assistance

Check for a Windows update or even a Nikon NEF view codec for Windows 7
