    Mounting fridge in ute

    G'day all,

I want to properly mount my 40 litre Engel in the back of the ute, Its a flat steel tray & It'll live on passenger side at head board.
Needs to be able to be removed relatively easily for day to day use.

Whats the best way to do this?

I'm thinking of 4 turnbuckles and flush mounted 'D' rings on the floor?
Do I need an Engel transit mount or what ever its called?

How thief proof is this going to be?
I normally have a canvas cover when travelling, so its out of sight at least, but not exactly secure.

Anyone have any photos of how theirs are mounted.

    Cheers,

    Al

To stop some lowlife stealing your fridge you woud have to bolt it to the floor, either through the base or with steel straps over the top. Certainly won't be portable and a PITA to open the lid with the straps idea.
What about a lockable steel box with air vents esp. around compressor area and with some breathing space, possibly insulate the inside with foam, probably need air vents around the box as well. If you are going to dunk it in a river or two it would be advisable to have a way of sealing the vents, BTW forgot to mention the steel box should be bolted the the floor, good luck, Regards Frank

Why not use a short length of chain through one of the handles and a padlock, to attatch it to the tray, you could even drill out the centres of the allen screws that hold the handles on so that they cant be undone easy?

Hmm. the handle screws are really quite small and a screwdriver could rip them out easily IMHO.
I just had mine apart this week and maybe a possibility would be to drill a couple of holes in the base under the compressor and pass a wire security lead through. If the lead was short , it would be very difficult to access the screws to undo the base.

not sure how much you are wanting to spend....I bought one of these Platinum 4x4 | DS60 Drop Slide ...they are a bit exy but are unreal....the tray on the 130 with water tank and spare wheel underneath sits pretty high and this works unreal....easy access at tummy level.....I have run some chain from handles to slide to secure it

I quite the steel box idea, thanks Tank.
It'll protect from the weather, and be well hidden from prying eyes. Every other ute has a steel box in the back, so hopefully no one will pay it any attention.

I've got ideas now, Thanks guys

    Cheers
