Think I'll give the tent cots a go and put up a tarp over. Got a trip coming up next school holidays and the weather should be turning cold at night by then so will be a good test. Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Why not just get a couple of quick throw on roof bars as the need arises. Run a piece of flat bar between front and rear with a series of holes in it and just clip the tarp onto it as need be...

No Worries.... Hope it all works out okay for you... Another version would be to do this to the other side of the vehicle to which you want it and fold the tarp over the roof and onto the side you do want it... this allows a 'safari' roof keeping the sun directly off the truck and internal temp down.. benefit to fridge running.. and if it is raining there is no 'gap' between side of truck and side area where you are camping....

Hope this is clear to understand... been a very long day!

I have had the genuine "Tent Cot", Oversize single for about 10 months now and it is great, I have not had any problem with condensation (I do tend to keep some of the flaps open what ever the weather as I like a bit of air flow) it's really stable and when combined with a self inflating mattress real comfortable.

Picking up two new tent cots next week and going to test them in the Grampians in April, can't wait.
Looks like quite a collection of army landies you got there. I spent six months in Sri Lanka cleaning up / rebuilding after the tsunami and was fascinated by all the Sri Lankan army Defenders. I spent 14 hours in the back of an very well used County 110 picking our way over to the East Coast to see what was left. I had a TD5 110 in the garage at home and remember thinking I wish I had it with me
