    generators

i was wondering about a good cheapish QUIET generator and where can you get them.
HONDA is the benchmark especially for quietness although a little pricey, is there any others similar but at a lower price?

I bought a clone of the Honda 1000W off a mob called Novasmic in Newcastle (thru eBay), it's called Sunlight 1000, this mob also sells the Kirpor brand, I paid $395 incl. delivery it is Identical to the Honda, except for the name plates, same OHV 4 stroke motor, same controls, 1000w, 35Dba, had it for a few years now, never let me down, Regards Frank.

Honda is brilliant. Got myself a i10, but would have loved a i20 so i could plug more into it.

    Yamaha also great...!

If you go camping these are the most common generators and very reliable without doubt

I have a 1700w Subaru inverter. It is a great unit but the Yamy & Honda are quieter. Have a look around the campsites and see what is there. I think you will find more Honda & Yamaha machines than anything else.

We have a couple of the Honda 20i's and they are very quite but for camping I would only use a gene in the middle of the day (if required) to charge the two x 100 amp AGM batteries if they run to low. Two 100 amp AGM's will last without charging for about four to five days without problem based on our normal power usage when camping.

Soon we will have solar so that will mean no more gene when we go camping

If your looking for a mobile solar kit www.Evakool.com.au on their website often have kits discounted as seconds at what seem like reasonble prices. They often have heavilly discounted fridges on there as well as seconds.

The Honda gene's are good you can get a cable from Honda MPE shops that connects two 20i's together and that gives you nearly double the power. I keep meaning to buy the cable for power outages at the farm and when connected together that would power most appliances and lights in the house.

    cheers,
    Terry

I recently bought a Kipor 2KVA invertor generator for $1250. It ran for 50 minutes before the inverter died (motor kept running fine, just no load due to inverter dead).

    Twas not happy.

Retailer had generator fixed (I lost battle to get replacement) and has run fine for 3 hours since. I suppose the good news was that it only took a couple of days to fix.

We'll see how it goes. Kipor offer a 2YR warranty via Primus.

I did suss out the 2KVA Stanley generator on sale at Bunnings. Interestingly, Stanley Aust have nothing to do with them (parts/service). I called them myself to confirm. Bunnings import them via a company called IMS International. 12 month warranty from Bunnings. After that, on your own.
