    Preferred Gas Bottle Fitting

    Hi all,
Easter coming up and I have to swap empty bottles for full ones.

Over the years I have gained a selection of bottles and am now rationalising the fittings.
The BBQ takes POL bottles and I have both 9 and 4.5 kg.
My 2 burner camp stove (campmaster cheapie) has a std 3/8" LH fitting and I have a number of 4-4.5kg bottles.

I have also noticed over the years that most but not all appliances using POL fittings have a regulator.

So, I am leaning toward swapping the 3/8 LH bottles for POL, but do I then need a regulator for the non regulated appliances like my stove, lights etc? I notice that it is possible to get POL to 3/8 conversion fittings and hoses with and without regulators.

I am vaguely familiar with the difference between HP and LP appliances but really interested in a set of bottles that are interchangeable around the house / camper.
I think POL bottles are the way to go.

    It's all so confusing.

    Any thoughts?

No you dont need a regulator for your now non regulated appliances as they are high pressure. This is the reason for the regulator, to convert "cylinder" high pressure to low pressure for fridges and marine stoves and any other low pressure appliance.

The type of fitting, whether it be Pol, 3/8 LH or Primus type, has no bearing on cylinder pressure as they are all the same. If you want to rationalise to Pol, all you may need is an adaptor to adapt to your current uses.

I came across this thread whilst looking up HP and LP stoves.

I bought a POL-3/8" LH adaptor from Ray's Outdoors but I'm sure they are available elsewhere.

Why I was looking is that my HP Primus stove isn't that controllable. One can't get a really nice low flame like one can with an LP BBQ or a home stove. I was wondering if the stove was converted to LP (if possible), would it give better flame and thus, heat, control?

I use a couple of the 3/8- POL adapters so i can use different size bottles with all my lpg gear, so i can take 2/4/8.5kg bottle depending on what equipment i want to use.

I'm no expert Ron, but I'd say no, as that's why there are high and low pressure appliances to begin with. Jet sizes are different in each of course too, just as they are different for Natural Gas and LPG.

The burners are also different, so I doubt it would be worth it cost wise.

HP stoves have a jet in the hose that atomises the L(liquid)PG to gas. And as numpty said the burners are different and different jets.

while the burner are different you cn get adaptor jets that have a different sized orifice for running the differernt gas pressure, I've got an old primus BBQ that was adapted across and runs fine from the lp regulated supply.

No - both HP & LP stoves run of the gaseous state, I doubt you can even get a small camping size cylinder with a liquid (decanting) feed.

Easy to get a liquid feed, just turn the bottle upside down.
