Have a look at the Hennessy Hammocks. Ive been a swag man always But wanted something light weight and small to take on a Motorcycle trip to Cape York this year. I bought one of these:
    Hennessy Hammock
I rode the barkly stock route last weekend and used the hammock. Best night sleep I have ever had!!!!!

    Jon,
Borrow a swag and take it away for the first trip or so, you have to give it a shot but really you can get to love them really easily!!

I lived out of my swag for weeks at a time on far north patrols and camp trips, mine is an old "double swag" (big at the time now more like king single!) But myself and the minister for war and finance fit nicely!. I have one with a 6' top flap so it can be put up like a hootchie tent.

My kids have small dome swags with fine mesh on top and head end... they use them but only one uses the tent pole for the head end.

Give the swag a go... (always roll from head end first-- so that if anything does get in (dust etc) when travelling etc its at feet end..)
    (REMLR 235/MVCA 9) 80" -'49.(RUST), -'50 & '52. (53-parts) 88" -57 s1, -'63 -s2a -GS x 2-"Horrie"-112-769, "Vet"-112-429(-Vietnam-PRE 1ATF '65) ('66, s2a-as UN CIVPOL), Hans '73- s3 109" '56 s1 x2 77- s3 van (gone)& '12- 110

I can second this recommendation. I have the Hennessy Deep Jungle XL which is the most comfortable nights sleep I can have outdoors. Pricey, but is good for my all weather, all season light weight hiking kit, as well as overnighters in the defender. It has a lot of features that make it my goto shelter unless I'm gettin' cozy with the lucky lady.

    Catalogue: Hennessy Hammocks and more

String it off the bullbar or roofrack to a tree or pole that I carry, and you've got a very comfortable bed off the ground in any terrain, season or weather. Awesome hammock.

The tarp tent I think is designed for ultralight hiking. This type of shelter shines when used for what it is designed for. There are better options if what you want is a shelter for car camping. The hammock option works well both ways though.

    Guys,
Thanks for all the input and opinions.

After thinking long and hard about my main drivers and requirements I've opted against a swag and instead opted for an MSR Hubba Hubba. Crap name but very good 2 man tent. I've used various bits of MSR gear for 15 years or more and it's never let me down. I guess that probably why I went for MSR and not some other similar brand. It also has a very funky as clever 1 pole system.

Pictures to follow when it gets out later this month

    Thx
    Jon

    Yes looks reasonable.

Roman Tent 3 Person Tracker | Harvey Norman Travel Gear

I liked the "speediness" of the EPE one, the Harvey Normal job looks slower.

Also fly is a different material.

Does anyone know how to interpret the waterproof materials/ratings? All sounds gobbledygook to me.

Polyurethane or PU coating done from 400mm up to 2,000mm ,this means that the water column before seeping through the nylon taffeta will be from 400mm up to 2,000mm,

190T or 210T is the number of threads per inch of the fabric
