After looking at various models etc, we chose a Unika made by effenne (Italian) being the best for size, weight, quality etc. It has been a very good machine and is mainly used for frozen Fish, Meat, vegies & bread in meal size "travel" packs, although, has been known to seal spare parts (eg Spare Caravan wheel bearings).
If you intend to only use the machine whilst travelling for short term food storage there are plenty of cheaper machines on the market. We make good use of ours for home freezer storage of fish (up to 12 months), meat and vegies.
Hoping to try it out on some Mud Crab Meat in the next few weeks, but difficult to get the crab to "last" long enough to seal the pack.
    Good luck with your trip
    Regards

We've been using a cheap Aldi one for the last few years, so far no problems with it, and it runs off the inverter.

Aldi's have one at the moment for $79, I have one the same as Bushie's, had it for several years now, never had a problem, cost $99 back then. I Vacuum Seal all my pre-cooked meals when I go camping and just heat it up in the bag in a pot of boiling water, then use the water for washing up, Aldi bags are cheap enough, can also get the bags on eBay, Regards Frank.

When you get the vacuum packer, be sure to wipe out the moat after each operation. Our Daughter lent hers to her brother-in-law, who proceeded to pack a whole bunch of fish without once wiping the excess moisture out of the moat. Goodbye vacuum packer!

I have a Sunbeam one purchased from the Good Blokes a number of years ago and it also works a treat. Probably more expensive than the Aldi one though.

And the camel meat packed via the Aldi on the Madigan Line was great.
