That was the main advantage I saw in having the fire pot.

Eco Billy with home made fire pot.In this case a cut down Lyddy Dry Seal tin. Had the billy about 10years.

Been using an Eco billy for over 10 years now and very happy with it.

Thermette, thats the one was trying to remember. My old man had one we used to take on picnics when I was a kid 50 years ago. Nothing is new, works on the same principle. He used to call it a Bengazi, something to do with his time in North Africa in WW2. They must have used something similar then.

I know its probably not as cool. But a jetboil works extremly well, uses a small gas canister. Have used it to boil water on nearly any surface. From the ground to bumpers and bull bars. Was nervous at first, but even the center console lid worked well.

Just mentioned the Biolite to a mate who is a Hiking type person. And was informed no Open fires, which includes wood burning stoves such as kettles etc. No wonder this state is going to pot.

Going to have to cheak on that rule. As I am we all have open fires in the Alpine National Park.

G,day Dave, I have never owned one of these kettle thingy's.
On the website it says fill it with water, Ok, but can you just half fill it if you just want enough boiled water for one quick cuppa ?

Decided to get the Kelly but undecided on alloy or stainless.
I dont want to cook, just boil.

Yes, you can part fill it if you want .... and go the stainless. More durable, less likley to suffer from a meltdown if there's a stuff up, s/s firepot is a better idea imho than alloy, and it wont dent as easy as alloy does ...

... and not that much dearer :)

Good choice, Kelly Kettles are awesome. Ours has been everywhere.
