This is my tent.. oztrail breezeway chalet 4 plus. Perfect for 2 of us. I run very hot so it's brilliant to have a tent where you can really open it out in the hot weather and get the air through. It's about 3 or 4 years old now I think and I can't really fault it. 200cm height the whole way through means I can stand more or less upright which is a nice change from previous tents!

    [QUOTE=Ranga;1877683]and the rest!

At this stage it's probably down to a good quality dome tent like this Wanaka Camping Tent from Macpac | Macpac, or a couple of pop-up tents.[/QUOTE

    Hi Ranga,
Thanks for the link. I have been a fan of, and used, Macpac tents for years (for hiking) but didn't realise that they had a camping tent. Although it's bigger than I require, at the sale price I couldn't resist and have just ordered it online.

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

    Tent

I have a canvas touring tent. Faded and well used. We go camping every month.

4 pegs and a centre pole.

It's nearly 30 years old and I reproved the seams last year and replaced a zip.

It's outlasted 2 counties, an Disco 1 and 2 Defenders.

We have an A-frame(pyramid) extension tent. They are really good, downsides are they quite heavy and do take up a bit of room.
They are really good to set-up. I personally do not like the poll in the middle but with the extension you do get abit for free flat floor.
Oh and we were travelling along one day and the wind court it and it flew off on the road and it didnt damage it. the quality does vary. The reason it flew off is we had the flap end facing forwards, stupid mistake and not tied down the best just jocky straps

We have been using a Southern Cross Tourer for about 10 years and its a great tent , but bulky and heavy. Been trying to lightweight our camping gear so I've just invested in a Wilderness Equipment i-Explore 3 man hiking tent, which is like a hi-tech lightweight swag, but probably not suitable for your needs.

If I were looking for a big tent again I would have a good look at the Campmor Safari canvas domes:

Never had one, but went away with a bloke who had one once and it looked good.

    Cheers,

I have been in a similar situation, where I have been searching for the best tent to suit my needs these days when camping with my wife,as she needs a tent tall enough to stand up in and large enough to fit a couple of stretchers in,with a little bit of room for bags and gear etc.
I have a canvas single pole touring tent, that I think is the easiest set up and pull down design, but it packs up to 1m x 1m x 15cm which is difficult to pack in a 110.
I then purchased a Blackwolf canvas 240 Turbo tent, again easy to put up,and while easy to take down,it is a tight fit to get it back into the bag.And at nearly
30kg and approx 1m x 50cm x 50cm it is heavy and takes up a lot of room in the rear of a 110.
I then purchased a Campmor Safari Bella Vista canvas dome tent with the category 5 spring steel fame system. This is probably the strongest tent I have ever seen, and the canvas is very heavy. It once again packs up into approx 1m x 50cm x 50cm and weighs approx 30kg,so takes up a lot of space in the rear of a 110.
I am now looking for something a lot lighter, and am currently considering a Diamantina Escape Mono,it has the category 5 frame system the same as the Campmoor tent, except it is mounted differently and isn't spring steel. It is also guaranteed waterproof, which is something that I demand of a tent. And it is large enough to fit the stretchers and have room left over to move,as well as high enough to stand up in.
here is a link to some tests that were done Rain and Wind Test - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azy6Qk1cPgI
    and here Results - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnXroZWxKTU
Hopefully this will live up to expectations,as my garage is full of unused tents

Very interested in the Diamantina Escape mono. I've seen them online, but unfortunately can't find any stockists in Brisbane to see them in the flesh.

I saw them at the caravan and camping show last year where I purchased the Campmor tent,I will be going to the same show again next weekend the 20th or 21st and will be paying a lot more attention to the escape mono myself.I will report back with my thoughts regarding what I find.At least I can buy one from Kangaroo Tent City down here.

Ok,I went and had a good look at the Escape Mono and found it to be well made and quite large at 2.4m x 4.4m .The main living area is 2.4m x 2.4m and the extension on the front adds the extra length. The extension at the front doesn't have an attached floor in the Escape Mono, but I also look at the Escape Duo,which was set up next to it,and it has an attached floor in a slightly larger front extension area.
The material of the tent,is lightweight, but seems a lot thicker and possibly stronger than a lot of the cheaper tents that I saw.The attachment points for the guy ropes looked well made and strong, and the guy ropes seem to attach with a piece of bungee cord. The tent is very well ventilated with a lot of mesh and large windows.
What I did really like the look of,was the frame system, which is a double pole arrangement and is colour coded,so you can't get it wrong

The Escape series tents, are made from a material that is a lot more waterproof than most of the others that are available, they are rated with a waterhead rating of 3000mm most others are rated 1000mm-1500mm.
I think these would be a great short stay tent, especially in warmer climates, and they are about half price at the show.
The other tent I like the look of ,was the Blackwolf Tuff Dome, which looked well made, and had alluminium poles, the waterhead rating on this is 2000mm
