Coleman fuel consumption

A bit late I know, but over the last 8 months using a twin burner (little) and a single burner (often) we used 10 litres of unleaded petrol in 10-12 weeks.

This was used in temperatures from -10c to +25c

I find the single burner much more efficient with fuel than the twin, I don't know why but it seems to be the same for those who commented above. You guys are using a lot of fuel for a hot country!

When we started using the twin burner more often I noticed an increase quite quickly. But having said that we were also in countries with low octane and poor quality fuel which is what I put it down to.

We carry a 10L jerry can in the trailer and fill up as and when required.

While I'm sure there are some nastys in petrol, lead certainly isn't one of them. We have been using unleaded here for quite some time.

Also, what sort of nastys are there in shellite? And, as it is 4 times the price of petrol, it isn't on my shopping list often. I have used it, and use petrol too. The shellite maybe burns a bit hotter, but that's it.

I am no expert but I don't think we add lead any more (in Australia anyway). Benzene isn't added, its a integral component of petrol. It IS a carcinogen though.Happy to be corrected. Having said said we have always used ULP in both light and stove. We carry 5lt in the trailer and have always been in more danger of running out of diesel for the Disco rather than ULP for the Colemans (Colemen?).

I have a Coleman three burner Shellite stove which was bought in 1977. It has been totally efficient and reliable and remarkably economical with the fuel. We took it on a three week touring holiday with a full tank and 2 x 2 litre cans spare. Bought another 2 litres in Tanunda as we feared running out and to be unable to buy in outback towns (we couldn't find any in Peterborough).Brought the new 2 litre can back unopened. Also have a Coleman Shellite lantern which is likewise, reliable, economical and brilliant. My daughter gave me a Coleman LED lantern which still has the same batteries as when received Christmas 2010. Battery life excellent, light awful. Useful to put on the table to eat by or hang on a pole or tree to mark your camp site but not suitable for use finding your way.

The fuel is for the stove, not for drinking or sprinkling on meals ;)
