ive just been given a kalahari awining by powerful 4x4 for helping out with some things they needed. they are relatively cheap (rrp 180), mine is 2.5x2. i havent fitted it yet but i was looking at the one in the shop and chatting to the guys there. seem to be good quality and fly out the door, you can also buy a floor and walls to turn it into a tent. unfortunately they dont do a full range of rover gear.

Without wishing to hijack this thread, has anyone attached an awning to a vehicle, (esp Defender) without a roof rack. Was thinking gutter clamps or (shudder) eyebolts through the body.
Or i get some simple removable bars so it can still get through the carport to its bed in the back garage.
Once the wind gets up,can't see how that will survive with no ropes.Quote:

Great when it is raining,when packing up it is still dry around the vehicle,as it is the last thing to be packed up.
BUT,as others have said,be very carefull in windy weather,it needs the biggest pegs available,and either the sand bag kit or special sand pegs on the beach.
We often sleep under it,saves putting up the tent.
I'll second the fox wing, mines been great on my defender. But make sure you heed the wind warning. I lost mine over the top of the car on Fraser Island first time I put it up. The guys from oztent were really good helping with the repair. Although the newer fox wings now have a flexible hinge that won't self destruct if it does bow over your roof.
Good to know they have improved it,the cover has been improved as well.We lost ours in the wind at Chilli beach on the Cape:(
When we got back,the guys at Auto Barn where we bought it from were also very helpful,giving us all the parts at no cost.It is designed in a way that it can be easily repaired.Ours was the first one that store had sold,so they were interested as to how it went together,etc.
In fact my oztent,made by the same people as the foxing, had some holes worn in it from the pounding on corrugations,while packed on the roof of the car,and they sent me a patch kit for no charge.

Some nice awnings here, I like the look of that super peg swing around.
I went with the Tough Toys 2.5 x 3mtr with l.e.d light. Seems like good quality & uses the rubber hinges for flexibility.
I will get the small 1.4mtr for across the back door later.

Spend most of my time in the vice high country, never camped on the beach but your right sand poles would not fit. I guess ropes an sand bags would be necessary.Quote:
