I'll pop this thread in the camping section, but make a comment first. I put my awning up and down on my own all the time - sometimes it's not easy, but I haven't busted it yet...

After unhooking the straps I then hold the awning and move it up with one hand, then swing each horizontal pole out and loosen it. I push them past where they need to go so I can roll the awning out. After I roll the awning out, I swing the vertical poles down - and leave them at their lowest height while putting the horizontal poles into the frame. From there I extend the vertical poles to the height required.

Sounds easy when I type it, but it can be a bit fiddly.

Cheers, my new awning is the type with side poles. And i have been messing around a lot trying to work out how to set it up nice. Good to know the tricks before i have to do it in front of mates out bush.

I have experimented a few different methods on my new roo systems and hav it sorted now.
1 remove the straps holding the awning.
2 unroll the awning one roll then lift it up and put put the whole lot on the top of the rack.
3 unfold the two arms and extend to a out the length they will reach out. I have used a marker on mine to mark how far to extend them. let them hang roughly in their extended position so you can reach them.
5 unwrap the Awning right out.
6 extend the legs one at a time to desired heigt and lock them.
7 poke the arms from the landy that you have previously extented in their holes and lock.
9 go around and adjust tensions and tie it down. Packing up is the exact opposite. Hope that helps.

Oh I understand now. Yeah. It's a bugger. Just remember, if you have a roof top tent, open the tent first because you can't get past the awning to open the tent once it's out.

Re my Fiamma CaravanStore awning, I've used it twice and on both occasions have ruined the little plastic clips that hold the legs on. I now need to go back to their service centre to buy more.

One has to buy all this just to get the little plastic bits. With postage, about $20. I'm not sure if I can use a screw and nut.



EDIT: Wait, I've just found I can now buy the rivets separately, I couldn't last time.
