Re locking mechanism. I've made one that I've used for the past 18 mths. It's made out of 6 mm poly-carbonate and the tabs are glued on using superglue (I used locktite) , I mainly use it when I'm traveling for work. I put a 240 lead thru the back window to run the fridge, when i am in camp or staying in a motel , and also to keep the car not melting inside during summer. It's just the right width to let the window lock into the 2nd slide point. Probably not perfect for someone determined, but have stayed in quite a few smaller towns in north west NSW and had no trouble to date.

Mate if you think that is cheaper than gas I don't think so.


A 4Kg cylinder lasts AT LEAST 6WEEKS using my gas stove in my camper kitchen cooking every morning and night and cups of tea in the day.
It costs about $18 to refill.
So 42days for $18 = 42.9cents per day.
Weekend lets be generous and 3 days 3.50=$1.17 per day.

Ah, should have said long weekend - 4 days actually, so let's call it $0.87 per day...

Still dont have to carry a pressureised cylinder with me.

I use one of these are cheap $69.00 and cartridges are 4 for $ very few dollars and no leak or gas storage probs

I've got a similar unit, but I've found that when it is cold, the gas in those canisters freezes making them almost unusable. You can still (just) get a flame out of them, but not enough to do anything useful with.

I saw 4 people with them at our last years Winter camp (not the freezing one we just had) and on Sunday morning at a cool 2 degrees, none of them could boil a kettle and had to use alternate methods.

They are a nice, cheap and easy stove to take along sometimes though, or on day trips.

We also have one very similar to this. For most things, we use a Cobb Cooker, but the Cobb isn't always ideal, especially for something quick like boiling a kettle - the little gas unit has always managed to fill in where the Cobb is not suitable.

I live in Tassie and camp out most of the year but you can use the small amount of heat to warm up ya spare cylinder I suppose but have never had that trouble yet x fingers

But I do store the thing in the warmer area where i camp in the back of the defender next to me bed
