and how exactly would you put a roof-top tent over a tray :?:
i had it on my  hilux  and all i did was make up some adjustable hight bars so while i was driving the top of the tent sat at the roof line level and when i stoped i just raised it so the base was just over roof hight. if i didn't need the zip on room at the bottom i didn't need to raise it. this method left a heap of room to store things underneith
Got any pics ? Email to me if you'd rather not post them here
I suppose the tray and racks set up you mention were steel ?
The only advise I can give is that when they say a 3 man tent, they really mean 3 very small men tent
Wow.. Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
We're going to buy a tent tomorrow morning.. After much thought, we're going to a Primus Red desert traveller (extended version). Despite the whacko name, I think it will be a good tent.
The bloke next door is currently making a frame up to mount his rooftop tent on a jap crap 4x4 Ute....I'll ask if he minds if I take a couple of pix to show around. He and his missus are getting ready to join the grey nomads and whilst they have a caravan, they want to use it as a base camp and then go and explore staying in the rooftop tent.
It looks like a good little set up for a rooftop tent on a single cab ute
Its not that bad a name, in fact I quite like it, it certainly sounds the part :roll:Quote:

What style is it, ie; dome, center pole, etc, and how much is it going to cost, the details may be of intrest to others

By that logic I reckon I've got a "100 Man" house.
I'd rather a 1 man/99 girl house myself Quote:

The Red Desert is made by Primus COI. It's is an imported polly cotton tent in the tourder style.
It is pretty much identical to this one, except it's red and white instead of the usual green/white.
http://www.oztrail.com.au/pages/products/c...s/tourer9p.html
The only difference being that it has a poly vinyl floor instead of the normal tarp floor at that end of the market. It was $329, or $30 more than the oztrail. We bought the sidepole kit to get around the centre pole.
We went away with it last night, and it went well. It was **really** simple to put up. The room inside was perfect for me and wifey and todler. We just used the centre pole, and it still had room for a queen bed.
It took about 25 minutes to put up single handed (first time), and only 15 minutes to take down, with the only help required by wife on the folding. We're happy campers The only downside is that like all tents of it's type, it doesn't fold down very small.
I'm sure with practise we will pretty much halve those times
