    Inflatable tents

We're shopping around for a new tent, and I've noticed a few tents on the market that use inflatable poles. Blackwolf have a Turbo Air range, and I just had a look at a Darche Air-Volution at Tent World. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these? The Darche one we saw semed to be pretty high quality, and the air poles felt nice and stable. I guess the concerns would be how long they take to inflate/deflate, and whether or not the poles are susceptible to punctures?

    Cheers

I've used the military ones before they take about 10 minutes to inflate but are about 15 feet long and ten wide

the "poles" are about 1 foot in diameter on those but a slow leak will have the tent sagging in as little as 25 minutes.

I've seen one of the small tents setup and it took about a minute and that included the time it took to hook up the air pump to the car and the tent and pack the inflator away again.

That one stayed up unassisted overnight but then it looked near on brand new.

Not sure how they'd go after a couple of years

The Darche one we looked at was pretty big, 4.8m x 2.8m I think. The sales guy said it took them about 10 minutes to set up, which isn't too bad. And as mentioned, the overall quality seemed good. I think the possibility of a leak is something that would worry me though ...

I attended an outdoor retailer trade show back in June and many of the manufacturers sell these in one form or another. They seem like an excellent option for a light weight quick to set up tent. I'd have to say i'd consider getting one as an alternative to my camper trailer for shorter trips without the missus.

The quality seemed right up there, the air tubes more than supported the tent. As mentioned above i think you'd have to be very careful in relation to storage and transport to ensure that the tubes arent punctured.

They are definitely more appealing in terms of set up ease when you get to camp, especially in low light, just unpack in inflate. The Darche Air-Volution ones seemed to be the better looking tent.
