I wonder how hot the plate will get and if you need to feed coins in to make it work.
Any public BBQ's I've used don't get hot enough to cook eggs.
I have just booked 4 days in Diamond head campsite. The information was emailed back. Imagine my surprise to read that visitors are not allowed to use any form of stove for cooking other than the bbq supplied by National Parks. How on earth can you heat water for a cupper. We normally use the small gas stove with the gas cylinder inserted. What are they coming at? I rang and confirmed and that is the regulation. Stupid situation as we are going next week and cannot get a refund. I wonder if my 12v immersion heater will run off my solar panels...I think not. Jim![]()

Maybe they have a "proper" stove there,, otherwise, I know what I'd be doing for a cuppa,, and if they catch you, get them to show you just how to do it with they're BBQ. If they can make you one in a reasonable time with correct temps,, fine, maybe wear the consiquences, otherwise, tell to fob off.
The same set up at the campgrounds in the Sturt Nat.Park. Had to boil the sauce pan on the BBQ. (It could even have been a hot plate). Gas was free. No problems.

I can still use my 12v water heater... it uses power![]()

If they didn't say exactly how you were to use their BBQ then maybe you could 'use' the NPWS BBQ to support your gas stove.![]()

Is it mentioned on the website?
I had a pretty good look but couldn't see it.
1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.
Not mentioned on their website it seems Jim...
I'm thinking that the condition is probably to cover backpackers with nylon tents - NPWS (or whatever it's called this week) don't want them lighting trangias or choofers in their tent ?
P.S. I don't go without my cuppa anywhere and a trangia is pretty quick and low key on a tailgate, folding table, on similar.
Why are you insisting on using your own gas, when NP.provides cooking facilities and gas,all included in the the camping fee?
