That area of the fridge is not chilled directly so not surprising it was reading 7c when the thermostat was set at 0c.
If the object of using a wireless thermometer is just to alert you if the fridge loses power for any reason then that's as good a place as any but it will never match whatever the thermostat set point is set to while in that location.
If the wireless thermometer reads 2c higher than thermostat set point when placed in the caged area I would say all is pretty good with the fridge performance.
Where you place it depends on what you want to achieve with it - check on fridge performance or check fridge has at least power without needed to physically be in it's presence..
