Thread: Rechargable lights

There are so many out there it’s trial and error I think. I’ve got some great little lights that charge from any standard USB outlet with an inbuilt cord that’s also the hanging clip but they aren’t available any more - adjustable from very dull to very bright.

Also have some similar to these - Brillar 9 Watt LED Lantern

Fixed brightness but the amount you open them controls the light level so quite adjustable as well.

I bought about 5 different types of these magnetic base lights, and this one has become my goto light, only exception is in tight spaces.
The ability to vary the light intensity via a rheostat is nice to have, as opposed to the click to specific dim levels(and the annoying flashing modes).

They are quite large compared to most other types, about 20cm long. And really needs something ferrous to hold it, as they don't stand upright by themselves easily.

Not quite sure how long a single charge actually lasts, but measured in the hours range(maybe 2 or 3), can also be run off the USB charge cable too.

I have a nice LED lamp that I got from Supercheap - works really well and cost about $75.

After a couple of years the battery died (even in storage they should be charged up once a month) so I started looking for another light but the equivalent were now far more expensive. A trip to the Battery Factory had me coming home with a new battery for $18.

So if you were happy with your Coleman - consider pulling it apart and getting a replacement battery from somewhere like the Battery Factory, Battery World (expensive) or Jaycar.

Oddly lights are more about the batteries than the lights. This might be a little outside the box. I have a jump start battery which can run my computer, charge my camera, phone or other bits and I think it would rock to make my own light or lights with just a plug to use via it as the power source. It has a recharge cable for a car lighter socket. Pretty sure it could be recharged via my Anderson plug connection while driving.

Just tried plugging two big strings of LED xmas lights in and it had no issues after an hour still having over 95% charge left.

Making a string of LED lights or a pole of them at any brightness or an off the shelf item like this one
The colour control might be handy.

or just replace the battery pack thats in it.

likely it will be a lithium or nicad pack that will just plug into a socket on the control board. head to jaycar and grab its replacement plug it in and foam tape it to fit the hole.

Thanks for the replies, the issue with my coleman is actually the light tube , I have tried several of the so called suppliers from the net and no one has it in stock . the 1 I did find O/S I could buy 2 new lanterns for the cost . its basically an economic write off from the searching I have done

If anyone has a link for a supplier then great , but it would have been purchased in about 07 as I still had a D2 ten and remember isubg the power cord for my nanocom .

Tube is U shaped with 4 prongs in a straight line not the tube with the 2 on either side of the mounting lug. has hi/low and nightlight switch on the lantern.

Sounds like you might be up for a new lantern
Fluorescent tubes are a thing of the past (and expensive)
As someone previously mentioned, try some LED strip light
most of them these days come with dimmers and colour
changing switches that work off bluetooth
I've got some permanently stuck (and cable tied) to the
overhead poles in the camper, and a few stuck to conduit
with fly leads that i hang under the annex (or trees)
Always get the 3000k warm white to deter the bugs
