    Blackwolf tents or other?

Damn, the more I read about tents, the more confusing it gets. So far im eyeing off the blackwolf range, especially the turbo tents. But not sure if its suitable. There are 3 of us (and a dog) and we need to have something roomy but manageable. I do not want a monster of a tent either, so as I said the Turbo seems to fit the bill. So, who has a blackwolf tent and what do you honestly think of it? And what other tents are comparable (I dont want cheap and nasty type stuff as it will put off the other half from going out).

    Any info appreciated.

r they the ones that fold up all in the one package like the oz tent (with a few more kinks). I dont know much about them but a mate of mine and I recently went to the caravan and camping expo at brisbane and compared the oz tent and another tent 'lone wolf or black wolf' which which different in design both were of the quick set up variety. we agreed the oz tent was second, 1, because it was like a box and 2, because it folded up to a large cylindrical package that wouldnt fit in a wagon.
    go the wolf.

My mate and I have both got the blackwolf turbo tent 240 and we swear by them. The package fits well in my 110 and in his disco. At camp we are fully setup and having a beer in around 10-15mins. So get the turbo and you wont look back.

Yeah I have read heaps on the blackwolf turbo range, thats why I was thinking to go that way. I also like the look of them (not that looks are a real factor anyway, but helps )

I had a small dome then upgraded to a cavas cabin tent which gave me the Sh*ts.

I started using a black wolf turbo 240 a year ago and it is brilliant. im selling the rest to fund the deluxe awning for it

there is no way i would go back to a normal tent after the 240

The Blackwolf is a copy of the Sarengeti tents( from South Africa), which are of superior quality, 14oz ripstop...blah blah. I have a Sarengeti, Bella Vista model I think, which looks identical to the one shown above.

Take a look at it, you won't be dissapointed

    black wolf vs oztent

I was looking at either the RV-5 Oztent (the newest one out) or the Black Wolf turbo tent 300. I ended up choosing the RV-5 as for me the door design had the deciding factor. In the Turbo tent it has the 'C' type of door. Where the zip is shaped in a large 'C'. I have found on previous tents owned that this type of zipper ends up needing two hands to open and that is the first place the flywire tends to rip or tear. I am not saying this will happen with these particular tents. Just a thing i hate. The RV-5 which measures 2600 by 2600 internal has the door into the tent with a zipper in the centre running top to bottom. There is another two zippers which start in the centre down the bottom and open to each side. Hope this makes sense. So all three zips when closed meet at the bottom in the centre. That way the whole front wall of the tent is the door. Oh yeah the Black Wolf turbo 300 measures 3000 by 3000 internal. it has better head room than the RV-5 however i liked the RV-5 better. I felt the RV-5 had better ventilation options with the windows. The extra walls and fly is easier to install on the RV-5 as well.

I made the salesman set up both in his shop side by side and walked through both and looked at the different options for ages. The RV-5 ended up being about $300 cheaper after getting the extra walls and fly to make a second room for both.

There is 4 of us in the tent. My wife and i and the two little-uns.

    Just my personal choice.

A mate of mine has a Black Wolf (after numerous others) and he swears by it.

It looks the same as the Serengetti but differs in the frame - the BW has an umbrella type frame.
Personally I avoid these specialised type frames as once they are damaged are difficult/impossible to repair. Replacement, which is often not easy when on an extended trip, being the only option.

Does anyone know if the black-wolf actually needs the fly put up each night?

I notice they have canvass ones, so hopefully you wouldn't need to do this if you were moving each night ??

EDIT: I'm considering one of these compared to a southern cross type tourer. The big advantage of the black wolf over the tourer would appear to be no centrepole. I know you can get sidepole kits for them but they are painfull and heavy.

Only negative I can see on the Black Wolf is that 2.4 might be a bit small and 3 might be a bit big but I'm nitpicking I need to do more research on this.
