    Time for a sit down and think...


    Right at the back, with access over the back door

    (I know the cover isn't put on properly)




    Moved forward over alpine/roof/giraffe window


    view from front-the legs barely align outside the ribs, which means troubles with the U bolt mounting method

    Another problem

    Not enough clearence between roof ribs and Rhino bar.


    The easiest problem

    U bolts too long




    I think my real problem is the Rhino bars, the legs are too closely contoured to go over the roof windows, and the legs just aren't long enough anyway.


    Now for those wanting to attach the tent with the exit to the side, the mounting method won't work, at least not with Rhino bars, as the U bolts and plates are too narrow to go over the roof bars.


    I didn't want to buy a roof rack as well

    Got the same Rhino racks Mark.
    Can't help with the roof ribs on the roof. Defender doesn't have them. As for fitting the bar legs, I just cut them to the same contour as the vehicle. Have been like that for about seven years with no issues. I don't carry large amounts, or much weight on them. So the little if any loss in structural integrity I can live with. (others may disagree though!)

    Was hoping to purchase the larger model and mount sideways. Doesn't look to promising though.

    I spent 2 nights in the tent this weekend just passed, and apart from a few very minor niggles, I love it!

    There was absolutely no condensation anywhere in the tent the first night, when I had everything zipped up airtight. I had it on the roof that night and it was great, apart from navigating from the ladder, around the spare wheel and into the tent. Side entry would be better in that respect.
    Second night I spent at ground level and again it was brilliant. I had some vents open with just flyscreens, it didn't get stuffy at all.
    I will put up pics later of how I roof mounted it, and why it was on the ground last night :|

    I really really like this tent. I reckon I could put it up in under 2 minutes if I didn't fold the cover, and pulling down only takes longer because the cover's buckles take a bit of reaching.
    The angled sleeping position is brilliant, no matter how level the site is you don't end up with your head downhill or on the wrong side of the tent. Not a fan of the centre longitudinal pole between sleeping positions but once you remember its there it doesn't cause a problem. I wasn't sharing though so the intimate moment/suspension testing qualities haven't been tested.

    can someone suplly the dimensions of the cradle, not sure if it would fit my Safety Devices rack? It has bar spacings of 140cm apart, would the cradle fit on top or sit in that? thanks.

    Hi Crump, sorry I didn't see your reply earlier.
    Use my photos up top for a clue to which dimension is which
    The legs stand ~18cm tall
    The leg length is ~150cm
    The legs are 96cm apart
    The overall width is ~107cm in folded down format

    The night I slept in it on the ground, I had the ladder still tied between the legs and the body of the tent. I very quickly got out and removed the ladder as I could feel it, so the height of the legs is important-if the sides of your rack intersect the sleeping position they will be uncomfortable. I'm pretty lightweight too so didn't make the floor sag as much as a heavier built person would.

    Recently got an Oasis RTT too. Attracted by the very light weight meaning I can put it on and roof the car on my own - unlike the EziAwn. The weight saving ( including the ladder) is about 30kg.
    But I am not convinced it works well on the D1. The roof is already high
    and the wind drag driving was noticable-even if the weight is hardly noticable at all 4WDing/slow driving. Also- if sharing, the person away from the door would have to seriously disturb the other to get out in the middle of the night.
    I also found in the first camp that I got cold from underneath - so there is a need for some good insulation there. Other than that-it looks to be a very clever and well put together design and it did not get any noticable condensation inside.
    Not sure if I will persevere with it at this stage - it may turn up in the market section.

    That is mounted very high not surprised you felt noticeably increased drag !
