I would say totally unecessary and an extra inconveniance to set up.
I have had the Howling Moon tent (this is the one ARB copied or bought the rights to make) for the past 3 years. I am not a little personand we have never had a problem.
Just bought an ARB rooftop tent. I plan to add additional support in each corner as well as the ladder(in case weight shifts to the unsupported corners) by way of box aluminium and a relatively new product called' adjust a feet.' Justa couple of poles with these feet and base plates to secure the corners are supported. Any previous experience along these lines??

I've got an ARB simpson and it's been fine. You'd only need legs if you wanted to stow the ladder while someone was in the tent.
Spent a couple of months all up in our Howling Moon which is what ARB copies theirs from and had no problems at all, personally I would`nt bother with the poles, the tent works well as it is.
Try it a couple of times, before going the whole hog, time spent 'considering' the situation, while relaxing in a deckie, with a cold beer, is never wasted.
I c ur point. I looked at the tent set up and was not too confident in its stability should extra weight be put on any of the unsupported corners. I know the ladder holds things quite well but from an engineering point of view the whole tent is really supported by (a) the fabric and stitching and (b) the hinging in the joint between the fold out pieces. Extra support, while being overkill could be good. But I think I'll just sit and ponder that over a few ales.![]()
Our Hannible can support My weight (and Im a Big Bloke) without the ladder as I found out when I set it up in the workshop one day on the pollished concrete and the ladder slipped out.
The tent took all the weight through the canvas and the strapping and only dropped about an 1 1/2" so I think there would be no reason for you to need it.
I'll just add that it is the best thing that we ever bought as an accessory for the landrover and we have even used it when weve had a few too many when at a freinds place for dinner, it's great.
I'm looking at getting one of those Ateco Oasis jobs , whole thing weighs 18kg, has anyone got one, I need some measurements to see if it will fit my existing rack???
