I'll second glowsticks. They have the added advantage of your being able to see where they are easily at night :)

yabbie pot is good if you are near a creek
Creeks ? What are creeks ?
Hot air baloons, the type with fire lighters, can start bush fires, so be careful.
The long trip there is often the killer, are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Colouring books, walkman(walkmen?), take a bird book so they can identify any birds they see.
Wet weather is another pain as they need something to do in the tent. We got ours their own tent as we need a break from them sometimes.
If they play around the fire watch them, I was a friend's boy's ski gloves catch fire while toasting marshmallows. He got the fright of his life when seven adults leapt on him to put them out.

We just bought a kids outdoor activity set from Coles for about $14.
Little backpack type bag with bat and ball, lacrosse thingies, boules etc. Just the thing for around the campsite I reckon.
The ideas have been great (the glow sticks are packed....I am hoping they will remove the need for a night light :D)
I just made up a small plastic tub last night with the following:
- Pens
- Paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paint, brushes etc...
- Plastic bag for collecting things in.
It will just permenantly live in the back of the truck and get added to over time.
Slightly Off Topic...
From an older member whose kids are long gone
You blokes and sheilas need to be congratulated.......
and your kids are very fortunate.
Hats off to all of you..........enjoy your kids while you can.
Made the kids these poncho's at Easter for the kids for camping.... now they think a camp activity is playing army games in the bush :D

Thinking about it now maybe I should have chosen star fabric ;)
The glow sticks make good night lights in the tent. Bright enough to see where everything is without a torch. (including the kid who has slipped out of their sleeping bag at 3 in the morning and is freezing cold.)
My daughter also has a digymond???? thing she hangs around her neck and plays with and interacts with other digymond??? things. keeps them quite for ages.
Son has matchbox cars (Range rover p38, classic, Disco and defender) thats enough for him.
