Thread: Dual Fuel

Well, went down the canyon last weekend, had meaning to go there for a while since we have been here in Alice for a year, had been reading up on dual fuel and don't really rate gas too highly, so bit the bullet and brought a three burner stove and small lantern. When i brought the stove the shop assistant told me that i was buying a family heirloom as i would never get rid of it. Well after three days and a whole lot of corrigations i couldn't agree more, it held up like a champ, was easy to get running and set up, no drama's with lighting or setting up the flame. admittedily we used shellite and not ulp, but i can't see me ever going back to gas and carrying around that big cylinder and setting it up everytime.Why are dual fuel appliances not promoted more?? I understand that ulp is not allowed in allot of comunities but does anyone know if this applies to shellite aswell???

Dunno re communities - shellite is volatile and sniffable so maybe not. If you like the idea but need to go places where ulp isn't allowed, think about getting a kero stove - a little more painful to light (metho to prime) but the kero isn't volatile.

I agree re useful. I love mine. Unbelievably useful if you have a petrol vehicle - just one fuel to carry. Just one niggle - you do need to watch the simmer level, as sometimes the heat isn't enough to properly vapourise the fuel leading to irregular burning.

TREX, you still have to carry a drum of shellite and you still have to pump up the pressure/fuel tank. I just use a 4.5 kilo gas tank, for lights and stove, lasts forever.
Scrambler Kero can be volatile if it gets hot, like diesel, Regards Frank
