Speaking of Camp Ovens.
Last Sunday we went to the Brisbane 4WD (and show us yer tacle) Show and spent an hour with Derek Bullock and his camp oven cooking.
I noticed he had a "Heat Bead Chimney" to pre heat the "Heat Beads".
Now Heat Beads has been my continual failure for the past 15 or so years !! They usually ark up just as I've finished or just die before finishing cooking, so much so, I converted everything to gas.
Well, after seeing Dereks Chimney, I went home and made one. I had some left over chimney from a recent kitchen range hood direst air vent I fitted, plus other bits and built this!
The photo's show the results from the "burning time".
The handle did not even get hot
In 15 minutes the beads were glowing and ready to be transported to BBQ/Steam Boat, etc.
The heat shield is aluminium and the bead base, a circle from an old gas oven rack, with a metal ring welded on the inside edge.
Cheers,
Ron
What a brilliant idea thankyou for sharing it with us I shall put one together this coming weekend as my Brother in law is a wiz at cooking with heat beads.![]()
