    Canvas in Sydney

    G'day...

Soon (-ish) I'll have a need for a swag. I want to make/get one made the way I like it: simple. Piece of canvas 7x9, some loops, eyelets and that's about it.

Any idea where I can get someone to make a piece of canvas for me is Sydney? I am pretty sure Carlton Canvas could do the job, but I haven't been there for ages...

    Cheers

I may be off the mark here, but I know one guy who works with canvas & I've found that if I want him to custom make something that is in production elsewhere, his charges are greater.

What I suggest you do, is find the closest production model for your requirements & establish its price before approaching a customiser.

    Best Wishes,

    Bloody fast replies! Cheers.

    Dullbird, it this the link?
Polaris Camper Innovations Awnings for horse floats, caravans, 4WD, 4x4, SUV, Truck, 4 wheel drive, travel, 4X4 FRIDGES, 4X4 FREEZER, FRIDGE.

As to the customisation issue: all I want is a piece of canvas. Easy. Once I used a friend's swag made by Thomas Cook (I think) - it was simple and small, but a bit too small for me so I'd like something to fit ME. Montrim Canvas (website is not working anymore) had traditional swags very close to what I want. A piece of canvas where I can use my Thermarest, open it up into a ground sheet or use it as a tarp would probably be the most versatile piece of camping equipment. Ergo: finished piece of canvas.

Saul Swags can supply the straps: cheap vinyl or pricey leather...

Try Nans Tarps at Lidcombe, just south of the railway underpass.
I've had a few small, simple jobs done there and he is quite reasonable and accommodating.

There is also a fella at the very end of James Ruse Dr (Not sure what the road is called there though) just before you run into the railway station at Granville. Hebuilt the swagman prototypes and will do all of this stuff. He will also do it in the proper heavy weight canvas.

if you know about carlton canvas you must either go past there or live nearby, i got some from them a few years ago, and had a friend stitch up what I wanted, if you have a rough idea of what you want why not, plus there is a place called robyn yates sadlery in Fontainbleu st ,sans souci just off, rocky point road, they used to stitch up horse rugs and the like as well as do sadle and leather repairs. Ha dsome stuff done by them too, they were reasonable.
