    The Aldi Swag.

    so here it is...

up in under 10 minutes including getting the mattress out of the vac pack bag the real machoists amongst us can try to put it back when they pack it up.

    inside this box
    PICT0007.jpg
you get this bag. which has your swag, poles, mattress pegs and guys your swag is rolled up around the rest of it.
    PICT0009.jpg
inside that roll is this matress bag inside that bag surprise surprise is your mattress which you have to get out of that bag(have fun with that)
    PICT0010.jpg
once youve got it all out you can start putting it together, I put the long pole in the head end, cliped it in did the foot end then tightened it all up using the supplied guys

then when i got to this stage
    PICT0011.jpg

I put the mattress in and then the center pole.
    PICT0012.jpg

    DONE.

10 minutes including getting the mattress out of the bag.

    The good.

    • its a rubber backed canvas so should last well. and once let breath and prepared should be very water tight
    • the poles have prebent joiners on them so getting the poles in is as easy as you like
    • theres plenty of room.... (see next post)
    • its light for a swag.
    • the zips feel sturdy as does most of the sticthing
    • 60 day trail period and a 1 year warrenty, and by one today and if it breaks in your pre xmas camping you can get a new one prior to xmas...

    The bad

    • the canvas doesnt feel like it will stand much abuse but then your not ment to be abusing it.
    • The mattress isn't full length and is maybe 5cms thick
    • it nearly fills its carry bag with just the standard mattress in it, by the time you add a pillow, sleeping bag/doona and a change of cloths you'll be pushing it let alone if you put a 10cms mattress in it.
    • IT doesnt have tie straps to keep it rolled
    • you cant do a quick rig by tying it to 2 trees like an apex tent
    • they didnt put clips on the small head flap so you can tie that up or secure it like a rain shield but they did include a toggle so you can roll it up.

    Verdict.

Its worth it for light to medium usage Im not sure how its going to stand up to a torrential downpour but a dousing with a hose didnt get anything wet inside.

they sold 10 in the time that It took me to nab 2 for mum and dad and get the groceries.

Mmmmm...wonder what your neighbours thought you two were up to in that last pic

Seriously, hope they work out OK for you.

I know how they get those mattresses to tighten up so small. We have always had Roman sleeping bags - Aussie made and the zips are guaranteed for a lifetime. Anyhow I had to take one back a few years ago after the zip broke. It took them about 5 minutes to replace the zip with a really good metal one and then they repacked the sleeping bag into the VERY tight carry bag. They have a machine which squeezes the sleeping bag into such a tight "ball" and then they simply put the carry bag over it and the machine lets go.
And it usually takes me at least 5 minutes of shoving and pushing and swearing

Hope you can get your mattress packing down to a fine art!

Is this a re-enactment for photo's for how it all began in "The Book"?

Actually Dobbo, I looked at our local Aldi's when I was shopping this morning and there wasn't any either. Maybe it's just Queensland??

Dobbo, you could give them a phone call if you want one. They have their head office not far from here at Minchinbury. There's only one phone number listed in the Sydney White Pages, its 9675 9000.

They might be able to let you know if the swag is available at regional stores or whether it's limited to certain areas.
