I have a oztrail centre pole tent , Ive had it the best part of 8 years it gets used at least 10 + times a year
Freinds that have come away with me that have all had those stupid dome tents and have since all bought a oztrail centre pole tent
The only drama ive had is the zip has died , Not bad considering it gets used so much:D
I highly recomend the oztrail:cool:
Before I bought my camper I used a centre pole tent. It was medium quality 2.7x2/7.
My wife and two kids were quite happy using it on a 6 week trip to Darwin. My wife and I camped in it for 100 nights on a trip to Broome.
It is not quite as quick to put up as some others because it has more vertical walls than some that have the frame fixed around the top.
However it was still very quick and simple. Slip four poles into sleeves around the top, drive in four pegs and raise the centre pole. My 10yr old son could erect the tent in less time than it took me to get the chairs, table, stove, food, sleeping bags and air beds out of the back of the LR. An Oztent might be erected in 30 secs, but I didn't mind spending an extra 90 -120 secs for the sake of something that was a lot easier to store in the back of the LR.
It is easier to store than something like the Oztent and has more standing room than a dome tent.
Even though it was mid-price range and had a lot of use over 20 years, the only repair needed was a new vertical zip on the door. It was actually only the metal slide that wore out.
I'm sure that the top of the range tents are better quality, but a mid-price one can do the job very well and can last a long time.
I'll chip in and say I'm very happy with the Black Wolf 210. Plenty of room for the 2 of us and very easy for one person to assemble or disassemble.
I personally don't like centre pole tents but they are by far one of the quickest to erect. As for the Oz Tent, the physical size of it when folded up was what I didn't like, you'd definitely need a roof rack, which I didn't have but will soon, when my Hannibal arrives:)
Thanks for all the feedback,having even something that took 1/2 and hr to set up would be a godsend compared to setting up the current behemoth. Am also going to get an oztrail Gazebo so we can set up table and chairs for eating etc for the kids. 2009 is going to be the year I get back into the things I love with my children and mates......14mths of no camping sucks :mad:,

Ok, went out and looked at some tents today...didnt get to see all the ones I wanted, but I learnt one thing.....I should take SWMBO more often :D. We are both pretty keen on the Oztent, simple, easy can add almost another room at ease...in fact possibly looking at 2 of them to join up...one for kids...one for us and bub and the two joined will create a decent awning/ undercover. As for length of it, Im looking to get a roof rack anyway, plus at this stage with general weekends away, I would be taking my trailer, so easy to throw everything in there along with bikes etc. If I go by myself or the older kids, we just need to take one tent. Looks like a good camping year for 2009 :D, be good as havent been with the better half, only kids so far....

Apparently the Oztents can zip up to it and it covers both the rear and side of the car! I think Im going to get one.

Hey Angus,
Good to know..checked out the link...pretty impressive. We'll most likely go with an RV5 and either and RV3 or 4 and the panels, therefore creating an awning plus an insect free room at the same time. Reckon Ill be camping every chance I have with this type of set up :D,

Nice, they really are easy. Bulky yes, but easy to use and after a long day touring its just great being able to throw them up.

Yeah, when he had a look at the RV4 today and another one packed up in a bag...thought good luck getting that in the D2...hence in part on my other thread looking at roof racks. Compared to my current tent that I cannot get back into bag and with combo of tent and poles etc it around 60-70 kilos and a cuppla hrs set up on ones own...this option is getting me very excited...especially as SWMBO gave the green light ( not that I need the green light of course :angel:...I wear the freakin pants round this joint:cool:.....cripes I hope she doesnt go for her once in a while peruse of AULRO :()Quote:

good to see you have seen the light Stevo:D........down at Sundown this weekend it was blowing a gale and very cold....Oztent stood up very well and kept us nice and warm:D
