I was camping out on the fringes of Arnham Land back in 2002 while on my 4 week outback expedition, during which i mostly slept in my Sar Major Discovery swag with the fly zipped up.
One morning I woke up at about 5am and when i opened my eyes i was greeted by a dingo happily checking me out through the fly. He was actually standing on the swag with his head about two foot away from me. It absolutely scared the hell out me....though you should have seen the speed of the dingo when i screamed.
It was also the second (and last) time that i had a shot of rum for breakfast.
Not a swag, but I got into bed one warm night and shook my leg to settle the hairs. However when the 3rd attempt failed I threw the covers back to reveal a large funnel web spider crawing up my leg. It took me a while to get back to bed but my wife couldn't sleep in the bed for the next week.
Nothing interesting for me; just had plenty of huntsman spiders appear out of my swag when I'm out bush.
Not just that Tank!, dont camp under tree OR at base of any reasonably angled slope of a hill with sparse or little vegetation.... The hoop snakes wont get you at night but in the morning theyll have you!
been sleeping in swag (basic swag no fancy windows or window dressings, no zips or stuff, just a good old swag) regularly for years in desert and other areas, never had too much of a problem, although after a big night on some "queensland diesel" (about the 10th wilmington night rodeo!)slept thru my swag getting towed around the campsite behind the car for a bet!! (slowly Im told!) and after another big night (curdimurka outback ball) woke up a little later than others and found that theyd placed a wooden cross on top of my swag and surrounded it with a nice empty bottle fence... its good to have mates!!!!
my mates swag just has an open end, no fly or anything. I keep telling him one morning he's going to wake up spooning a wombat :lol2:
