    Yukky Tasting Water

How long does it take to get rid of the yukky plastic taste in plastic water jerries. I have flushed mine about 10 times over the past couple of weeks and it is still yukky and really not drinkable.

    Thanks

Hmm is it a new one or one you've had lying around a while ?
You could try a very dilute bleach solution, bettadine weak solution, or better Miltons ( used for sterilising baby bottles ) leave it in there a couple of hours then rinse, if that no worky get another one.

I've successfully used a bottle of vanilla essence diluted in a plastic camper trailer tank to get rid of the tainted taste.

We used to rinse them out with water and vanilla essence before each trip......... but that was years ago. Plastic has probably changed alot since then.

a soak overnight with the steralizing stuff you put in your home brew kit works a treat, or white vinegar is good as well.

    Thanks for the responses.

Is a new plastic jerry - specifically for water and not suitable for fuel.

Will try the various suggestions - and not use the hose to fill thought water through the hose normally tastes Ok.

    Cheers

Wash with a dose of good old citric acid could well do the trick.

Haven't bought it for years but you should still be able to get the 20g sachets or suchlike.

The homebrew stuff sould work OK BUT rinse well.

I got 10 metres of food grade hose and use this to fill my water bladder and jerry. It leaves no garden hose taste to the water
